Tips And Advices - Obtain a Driver License in Alabama

Obtain and study an Alabama Driver Manual which can be picked up at any Driver License Examining Station, State Trooper Office, Probate Judge or License Commissioner Office, or downloaded the manual from the Alabama Department of Public Safety website.

Apply for your license in person at a Driver License Examining Station. Locations and hours can be found in the back of the Manual or on the website.

Bring proper documentation. For acceptable forms and types of documentation, refer to the Alabama Driver Manual. Proof of liability insurance is also required if are taking a driving test.

Pass all the required examinations. There are three tests: a vision screening, a written test and a driving test. You may not be required to take all the examinations.

Meet all the requirements. When you have passed all tests, had your photo taken and paid the required fees, you will receive a temporary license (60 days) with your picture that gives you the privilege of driving in Alabama.

Receive your permanent license by mail. Alabama Department of Public Safety must have your current address on your application.
