Tips And Advices - Change a Timing Belt on a PT Cruiser

Edit By:Care Cars
You going to want to safely remove your A/C refridgerant, and several other things before you can access the Timing belt to change it. Remove the negative battery cable, right front wheel and inner splash guard, accessory drive belts, crankshaft damper, the lower torque strut, exhaust manifold, the A/C compressor switch, the upper torque strut and bracket, the upper radiator support, power steering pump and bracket, the right engine mount, and the engine support bracket.

Make sure your engine it supported either underneath by a jack, or up above with an engine hoist before you remove the engine mount or support bracket.

Once you have these out of the way, you can move on to the timing belt which should now be accessable.

Get out your breaker bar and turn that engine over until you hit Top Dead Center or TDC.

Once you have reached TDC, you should be able to reach in and find the Tensioner, which will most likely take a large allen wrench to turn. When you've found it, turn it counter-clockwise to loosen the tension, and then remove the belt.

Once you have removed the old Timing belt, replace the new one the same way the old one came out. Make sure that you have the tensioner loose so that it will go on easily.

Replace the list of things you had to remove to get to the timing belt, and your done!

Yay!
