Tips And Advices - Retrofit a Car Grille

Edit By:Care Cars
Disassemble the old grille. You need to unbolt all the bolts that attach your grille to your vehicle. Put each bolt with its washers and nuts and set aside for later use. In order to completely disassemble your grille, you may need to drill out rivets or cut off other attachments.

Choose your new grille. You must find the make and model that hosts your new grille. The more the new grill matches the size and shape of the previous grille, the less modifications you must do.

Purchase your new grille. You can buy a grille from a local auto part store or visit your local junk yard to find deals. If you buy a grille from a junk yard you may need to follow Step 1 to disassemble the new grille.

Make modifications. You have to determine how to retrofit your grille to your car. There are many types of modifications that you can make based on the look that you want to achieve. You may need to cut off or add parts to the new grille or to the car where attach the grille. You should use cardboard templates to test ideas before you modify the grille or the car.

Install the new grille. You may be able to recycle the bolts from Step 1. You need to use painter's tape on the edges that might bump your vehicle during installation in order to protect the car from scratches. You can also use tape around the bolts to prevent damage.

Finish the look of your retrofit grille. There are several methods you can choose to finish your grille, including paint, chrome or gold plate. You must make sure that you get every angle of the grille for a smooth, professional look.
