Buy a Remote Keyless Entry System for an SUV

Determine your budget. Keyless entry systems are not terribly expensive, and they vary in price and sophistication.

Have the system installed at the dealer. This is not always the cheapest way to do it, but you know you will not void the vehicle's warranty and it is easy to bring it back in the event of a malfunction.

Talk to your dealer or your local garage about which remote keyless entry systems are compatible with your make and model of SUV. This way, you can narrow the field and not waste time shopping for systems that will not work.

Look at specialty magazines. Look for ratings and reviews in motoring magazines and pay attention to ads placed by security companies to give you an idea of the features and makers you should look out for.

Look online. Read car security websites and discussion forums to get others’ impressions of the systems you’re looking at or planning to buy.

Decide which features you want in your system. Remote keyless entry systems range from those that simply unlock your door to systems that can sound the alarm, start the car or unlock just the driver’s door.

Buy your system and have it installed on your SUV. Do not attempt to install a keyless entry system yourself unless you have experience with similar work or the advice and help of somebody who does.
