Tips And Advices - Get a Specialty License Plate in Tennessee

Edit By:Care Cars
Log on to Tennessee's Department of Revenue Web site (see below).

Access an official application for specialty license plates by following the "Forms & Publications" link, clicking on the "Titling and Registration Forms" link and downloading Form # RV-F1314001.

Read the instructions section on the first and second pages of the form before proceeding to the application portion of the form. Keep all rules, regulations, policies and class designations in mind while filling out the application.

Write your full legal name, address, county, daytime telephone number and your present license plate number.

Sign and date your application to signify the truthfulness of your application.

Peruse Tennessee's specialty license plate Web site (see below) to familiarize yourself with the different types of plates available to drivers. Read about each plate's eligibility requirements. Be advised that some plates may require that you provide proof of your eligibility before you are able to acquire them.

Select a plate type on the form.

Personalize your license plate by listing three choices for your plate message in order of preference using capital alphanumeric character combinations. Follow the rules for personalized message options outlined on the form.

Collect all eligibility documentation, including letters of authorization and licenses, if applicable. Make copies or include originals as per the directions of the form. Be sure to include the contact information of certifiers, if required.

Determine your fees and make a check payable to the State of Tennessee.

Mail your application, payment and all eligibility documentation to Vehicle Services Section, Taxpayer and Vehicle Services Division, 44 Vantage Way, Suite 160, Nashville, TN 37243-8050.

Pick up your personalized license plates at your county clerk's office within a few weeks. Affix any new decals on your permanent specialty plates upon receipt and use.
